- Identify and understand nonverbal communication and practising awareness of nonverbal communication (such as body language, facial expressions, tone of voice and eye contact).
Simulation Scenario
Characters
Patient: An elderly patient who is visibly disoriented, scared and unsure of their surroundings.
Nurse: A compassionate and attentive nurse tasked with communicating effectively with a confused and fearful elderly patient.
Background
An elderly patient is exhibiting signs of cognitive disorientation and emotional distress. Their condition appears to be exacerbated by unfamiliar surroundings, medical equipment and all the constant activity within the hospital ward.
Setting
A patient room in a hospital, equipped with basic patient care facilities such as a hospital bed, side table and a chair for the nurse.
